Spring Is Coming: A Playlist

Spring starts this year on March 20, a week from today. Depending on where you live, you may have seen or experienced polar vortexes, devastating fires, Arctic winds, and other weather extremes. Here in the lower Midwest, we have been eagerly waiting for spring. We often exchange words of encouragement with passerby, as in “I think spring is winning.”

Whether it is blind optimism or a selfish drive to get through the cold, dark shuffle of slowly making it through the first week since Daylight Savings, spring is, indeed, coming.

In honor of the forthcoming March equinox, I present twenty songs in the season’s honor. This playlist is a little folksy and jazzy with a whole lot of promise of sun, rain, and new love. And if you have a springtime song that you think should be included on this mix, let me know in the comments. Otherwise, I will be here, counting down the days till spring, prepping my plant starters indoors, and watching for signs that the Oklahoma redbud in my backyard is ready to bloom.
