Jeff Smith

Jeff Smith is a professor in the Department of Communication Arts and Director of the Wisconsin Center for Film and Theater research. He is the author of two books (The Sounds of Commerce: Marketing Popular Film Music and Film Criticism, the Cold War, and the Blacklist: Reading the Hollywood Reds) and the co-author, along with David Bordwell and Kristin Thompson, of the 11th and 12th editions of Film Art: An Introduction. Smith has also published more than two dozen book chapters and journal articles on various aspects of film sound and film music, and is a frequent contributor to the “Observations on Film Art” series on the Criterion Channel.
