Richard Rosenfeld is Thomas Jefferson Professor of criminology and criminal justice at University of Missouri-St. Louis. His research interests include the social sources of violent crime, crime statistics, and crime control policy. His current research focusses on explaining U.S. crime trends. Rosenfeld served as president of the American Society of Criminology in 2010.
I have always loved my library. I have kept it with me, growing with me, since adolescence, through marriages and divorces, through changes in occupation from student to steelworker, from truck driver to college professor, and moved it from San Diego to Chicago, to Los Angeles, to Cincinnati, and finally to New York City.
Engaging seriously with the evidence on issues of crime reduction, allegations of police brutality, and unjustified lethal use of force on members of minority communities was clearly not part of Mac Donald’s purpose in writing this book. She chose instead to present a lawyer’s brief in defense of the police against charges of discriminatory treatment and over-policing of minor crime.
