Colin Burnett is an associate professor of film and media studies at Washington University in St. Louis. He is currently at work on a new book—his third—entitled Serial Bonds: 007 Storytelling Across Media. He has written several essays on the Bond franchise, including a chapter on the various Moneypennys in film, literature, and comics in Resisting James Bond: Power and Resistance in the Daniel Craig Era (Bloomsbury, 2023) and a feature on Lashana Lynch, the first black woman 007, in the September 27, 2021, issue of LA Review of Books. His other writings on Bond, media franchising, and film and media culture can be found on his blog, Moving Patterns.
In 2023, the Bond franchise celebrates its 70th anniversary. Very few franchises, with the exception of the Universal Classic Monsters and Godzilla series, have enjoyed such a long life in the popular media of film. Like them, the Bond franchise has seen many new beginnings that continually restart the property, perpetually reset it, and are bound to do so again.
