The Common Reader showcases no ads, and because it’s published under the auspices of Washington University, an institution of higher learning that cares about free and open dialogue and inquiry, it has no corporate owner.

Instead, part of how we measure our success is through readers who pay a nominal fee to enjoy unlimited access to all our content. All visitors to the site can enjoy free access for a time, but repeat visitors will be asked to pay $19.99 for a year’s online subscription, or $.99 a month.
